Manufacturing engineers working with external supply chain spend 50% of their time (or approximately 4 hours each day) reviewing and approving First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs), which are reports on manufactured parts to check the measurements and compliance. However, majority of this time is spent on checking data accuracy which is administrative and not value adding. The engineers have to cross check the data (i.e. part numbers, drawing number, reference location etc.) in FAIR on the web application (Net-Inspect) against (printed or digital) drawings.
How might we digitise/automate the checking of the data in the report against the drawings using optical character recognition (OCR) or any other tech capabilities to speed up the process?

The prototype of a solution which enables our Rolls-Royce engineers to
Reduce manual data-entry as much as possible
Reduce time spent on manual checks
Be able to make recommendations for changes
There are no restrictions on the geographic location of the problem solvers who may choose to apply to this challenge. However, the engineering drawing samples are subjected to export control; hence the data will be restricted in Singapore. The prototype needs to be demonstrated in Singapore.
Possible Use Case
The applicant is to propose the ideal solution to cover the following requirements:
Develop a software application used on a laptop to digitise/automate the checking of the data in the FAIR report against the drawings
The software will be used by Rolls-Royce engineers to assist their daily checks on the FAIR report and reduce the time taken to complete a check from approximately 4 hours to 1 hour
The software will have the capability to capture data in the drawings using OCR (or other technology) to compare with the FAIR report information on a web-based application (Net-Inspect)
The software will be able to highlight or alert errors made in the FAIR report, potentially suggest changes, and provides the option to apply the changes to the report
